My 24 Hour Comic

Tomorrow is 24 Hour Comics Day. That means all over the world people will be creating a comic in a day, and this year I'll be one of them!

I'll be updating this post through the day to report on my progress or lack of so stay tuned!

9AM: I've started! Well, I'm drinking coffee and shuffling bits of paper...

6PM: It's going pretty well, I've got eight pages done so far. Having a Dad's Army break and some food now.

1AM: Fourteen pages done. Starting to get weary...

8AM: It's done! The last section was tough. Now sleep...

AFTERMATH: Was too tired to do much of anything yesterday! Overall I'm pleased with how it turned out though. I've put it away for a few days but I'll be printing it for Thought Bubble in a few weeks. Then the world will witness The House On Murder Street...

Thanks to everyone for the support and interest!

  1. I started about an hour ago myself... as i'm going midday to midday - I've written a breakdown of my plot, kind of like an idiotic behind enemy lines kind of thing. I sent it to your facebook account.

Time to start drawing and ruling pages and things. I might have to cut down on the coffee for now, otherwise i'll not make it!

  2. I'm on a break again, but it's going good now. Had a dodgy period this afternoon and had to scrap some pages. I've got it all plotted out now though. Read your breakdown, it sounds class!

  3. I've posted a photo of my first 15 layouts on facebook... It's kinda going well I think: the pages are going fast now, but the coffee is making me weird and it's only 7pm...

  4. Layouts seem to be happy - some better than others...

  11. Glad you made it! Mine isn't finished by any means - it's a mess - but it is readable I think. I lost a few hours during the night scanning the layouts with the intention of doing the final drawings digitally... In the end, the pencils were probably as good as what i've got now, since I didn't have good pens for the job. Still, happy that I took part!

  12. Well done mate! Mine needs a bit of tidying up and stuff but I'm having a few days off to recover. Looking forward to seeing it!

  13. Man, how did this pass me by? This sounds like a hoot - granted, a hoot that probably gets less hooty by the twentieth hour, but still a hoot!

  14. Yeah, the levels of hoot-ness were pretty low by then!
Overall I'm glad I did it though, it was a challenge but it was fun.

  15. I think 'bleak' is the word. From a lot of the US blogs it seems a lot more civilised to do this as part of a big group with some girls in it.

  16. You mean like one of those liveJournal cliquey things?

I tried to draw comics once upon a time, but it took a day to do one page - that's probably why I find the idea of a whole comic in that space of time so fascinating.

  17. Doing 3 or 4 hours in a group or something would be good, and probably aid the motivation, but I'd need a good portion of the day alone I think. I did a lot of lying on the floor eating crisps and thinking things through, no-one needs to see that :)
